Livingston Football Club join professional trend and swap from natural turf to Greenfield’s MX Elite 50.
Following in the recent trend by numerous professional and semi professional Scottish Football Clubs, Livingston FC decided to convert their existing natural turf stadium pitch to 3G in summer 2018. Prior to contracting the project, the club specified Greenfields high end 3G woven system; MX Elite, for their final playing surface. As a premier partner of Greenfields, Sportex were appointed as the main contractor for the project.
After undertaking the initial excavation and groundworks to remove the topsoil, pitch drainage was installed alongside a dynamic stone and open textured asphalt base. This was followed by the installation of a preformed shock pad and Greenfields ‘MX Elite 50’ artificial turf. The project was completed by the installation of fencing, floodlighting and sports equipment supplied for both rugby and football.
On completion of the project, the newly installed field was independently tested and approved to FIFA Quality PRO performance standards.

University opts for Polytan’s innovative Olympic surface for internationally certified pitch.
Peffermill, is Scotland’s National Hockey Academy with two floodlit, water based astroturf pitches as its centrepiece. Peffermill’s pitches are home to University of Edinburgh’s mens’ and womens’ hockey clubs, as well as a training and competition venue for other national and local league club teams. Furthermore, Peffermill was the first venue in Scotland to be formally certified to stage international hockey competitions.
SPORTEX were delighted to continue their long-standing working relationship with the University by the commission of one of the existing water-based facilities. After the removal of the existing carpet and worn shockpad from the site, a detailed survey and assessment of the sub-base was undertaken to ensure the tolerances continued to comply with the requirements of the International Hockey Federation (FIH) Global Performance Standard.
New in-situ bound SBR shockpad was installed over the engineered base and surfaced with ‘Poligras Platinum CoolPlus’, a premium and innovative product, manufactured by Polytan. The surface chosen by the University for the project was the sole elite hockey surface used at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.

The school formally instructed SPORTEX to carry out a full cleaning, retexturing and relining of the entire track surface to bring it back to life after its performance and appearance had deteriorated in the last couple of years.
Works to athletics track are notoriously sensitive to weather conditions, so careful planning and management of the project were critical to ensuring that it progressed in a timely manner, and within the tough deadline set by the school.

Despite the weather, SPORTEX delivers a new polymeric surface, for a new athletics season and all on schedule.
The athletics stadium at the John Wright Sports Centre was opened in 1989, by Sir Steve Ovett. The area has a 400 metre, eight lane, porous polymeric athletics track, with infield athletics facilities for javelin, discus, hammer and high, long and triple.
After a competitive tender process, SPORTEX were chosen as the main contractor for the refurbishment of the entirety of the polymeric surfacing at the athletics stadium. The existing polymeric, was moss and algae treated, before thorough, deep-cleaning using a unique water process, specifically designed for athletics’ track cleaning.
Once the cleanliness of the surface had been inspected and approved, a new ‘structure coat’ was applied, as a spray finish of red coloured EPDM (rubber) granules and pigmented polyurethane. Finally, all lane, hurdle and event markings, were set out and painted using a specialist 2-part polyurethane paint.
The project was delivered on time, and ready for the new athletics season, despite challenging weather conditions, much to the delight and surprise of the athletics clubs that use the facility on a daily basis.
