Despite the weather, SPORTEX delivers a new polymeric surface, for a new athletics season and all on schedule.

The athletics stadium at the John Wright Sports Centre was opened in 1989, by Sir Steve Ovett. The area has a 400 metre, eight lane, porous polymeric athletics track, with infield athletics facilities for javelin, discus, hammer and high, long and triple.

After a competitive tender process, SPORTEX were chosen as the main contractor for the refurbishment of the entirety of the polymeric surfacing at the athletics stadium. The existing polymeric, was moss and algae treated, before thorough, deep-cleaning using a unique water process, specifically designed for athletics’ track cleaning.

Once the cleanliness of the surface had been inspected and approved, a new ‘structure coat’ was applied, as a spray finish of red coloured EPDM (rubber) granules and pigmented polyurethane. Finally, all lane, hurdle and event markings, were set out and painted using a specialist 2-part polyurethane paint.

The project was delivered on time, and ready for the new athletics season, despite challenging weather conditions, much to the delight and surprise of the athletics clubs that use the facility on a daily basis.

Sportex project transforms tired Queensferry community hub, into a ‘little Wimbledon’ for Edinburgh Council.

SPORTEX were delighted to be chosen as the lead contractor for the transformation of tired and dilapidated MUGA and tennis facilities, at South Queensferry Sports Hub in Edinburgh.

The scope of works included transforming the existing, four 5-a-side 2G ball courts, into a single, dedicated 7-a-side 3G football and rugby training area. A new 60mm pile height, 3G carpet was installed on top of a new 20mm thick insitu laid shockpad, after establishing that the existing engineered macadam base, was within the required tolerances. The perimeter fencing was replaced with new 868 rigid panel fencing, for added durability, along with new 7-a-side goal equipment.

The existing three court tennis facility, was overlaid with a new, wearing course layer of asphalt, before being painted with a water-based acrylic coating in green and purple, similar to colours commonly associated with Wimbledon.

Sportex builds a brand new MUGA for Clydemuir School that will also change the lives of a whole community.

In early 2018, West Dunbartonshire Council identified an area of disused ground at Clydemuir Primary School in Clydebank, to be converted into a new 3G synthetic turf MUGA, for use by the school and local community. Significant design and groundworks were undertaken, to not only improve the drainage of the site, but also to provide a stabilised platform to construct apon. A 60mm, 3G carpet was installed on top of a 20mm insitu laid shockpad. The new facility was encapsulated with new, 868 rigid panelled, fencing, appropriate gate access and permanently hinged, 7-a-side football goals.

In addition to the 3G artificial turf MUGA, a painted, porous asphalt duel tennis/netball court was designed and built on spare land, adjacent to the MUGA. The new facility brings a large under-utilised area into everyday use, for both the school and the wider community.

Whitecraigs Tennis Club choose SPORTEX to refurbish 8 new courts after a lengthy two years to research their options.

Whitecraigs Tennis Club has a rich history of Scottish tennis success, and is known across the country for developing and producing some of the Scotland junior players.

Summer 2015 saw the complete refurbishment of 8 new outdoor synthetic turf courts at Whitecraigs in Glasgow; six in artificial clay and two in, sand-dressed, artificial grass. The club set up a sub-committee tasked with researching and presenting back to the membership, their recommended options for the new surfaces.

After nearly two years of work and countless visits to tennis clubs across the U.K., the sub-committee recommended Edel ‘Advantage Redcourt’ as the preferred artificial clay surface with SPORTEX recommended as the lead contractor for the entire project. All works were completed within a tight schedule to ensure the courts were complete for the club’s championships in August.
