After years of poor maintenance, an extensive project for Lostock Hall Academy was required, including the reconstructing of macadam courts, installing new athletics facilities, and additional landscaping.
Sportex replaced the existing surface with a modern sand-dressed synthetic turf “Gen2” compliant MUGA and constructed an acrylic-coated macadam court. The new athletics features included a six-lane sprint straight and a long jump pit. Landscaping works involved creating a plaza area and a garden area.
The entire MUGA perimeter was enclosed with a new rolled welded mesh fencing system, and new sports equipment was erected. Additionally, we installed the new athletic sprint straight and jump pits, as well as performed external landscaping and surfacing works.

Located in the bustling town of Airdrie, the Excelsior Stadium has been upgraded to better serve the football club and the local community. Recognising the need for improvement, the previous surface was outdated and required a refurbishment.
Sportex installed a FIFA Quality Pro-compliant 50mm 3G synthetic turf. The project began with the removal of the old 3G carpet, followed by necessary repairs to the shockpad to maintain safety and performance standards. The new turf features inlaid football lines, providing a high-quality playing surface. Additionally, the refurbishment extended to the surrounding areas, refreshing the overall appearance of the venue. These updates ensure that the Excelsior Stadium continues to serve as a welcoming home for The Diamonds, offering an improved environment for both players and fans.

Home to The Doonhamers, Queen of The South’s Palmerston Park required that the pitch be re-laid, in order to turn the stadium into a top-quality sports facilities.
Sportex attended site meetings, ensured contractors’ warranties, complied with employee certification and liaised with the Local Planning Authority. Provisions were made for maintaining public rights of way, managing staff and resources, and ensuring compliance with CDM 2015 Regulations.
The project included site accommodation, protection of
work, temporary fencing, road and footpath cleaning, and a pre-commencement dilapidations survey. We handled plant transport, removed the existing 3G carpet, and swept the shockpad to remove debris. Localised repairs covered 10% of the e-layer surface. The new pitch featured a 50mm 3G synthetic turf system with Greenfifields MX Elite 50 carpet, stabilising infill with silica sand, performance infill with SBR rubber granulate, and inlaid line markings for a full-size football pitch.

Sportex recently completed a comprehensive project at the Netherdale Sports Centre. This project is unique as it facilitated improving the surface for both the local football and rugby clubs.
This involved establishing a safe working area and removing the old synthetic surface, which we then recycled. The existing shockpad was retained, with localised repairs made to the underlay stone base.
The stone base was regraded to meet FIFA Quality Criteria and the project included installing the existing shockpad and synthetic grass surface. Sportex also managed the removal of existing floodlight columns and installed new bases and lamps. This revitalisation provides a safe and upgraded facility for both the club and the community

Situated in Glasgow's West End, the project at Kelvingrove Tennis Club in Glasgow entailed a comprehensive refurbishment of the tennis courts.
This included the removal of the existing synthetic turf, shockpad, stone layer, sub-base, perimeter fencing, and kerb. The new design incorporates a 2G sand-dressed turf system accredited to ITF Certification, along with fresh surface and engineered layers. Any necessary repairs were made to the existing base, with new timber kickboards being installed to fill the gap at the bottom of the fence, enhancing both the aesthetics and functionality of the
courts.

Situated in the heart of beautiful, coastal St Andrews in Fife, the tennis club is home to a vibrant community of tennis lovers. The existing facilities consist of seven outdoor courts and three mini-tennis courts with coaching offered at all levels and social tennis for all ages and abilities.
It was identified back in 2019 that three of the existing artificial turf courts were in a poor condition, with the existing court levels having deteriorated over time to the point of being a health and safety risk to users. Sportex were chosen to completely reconstruct the profile of the courts which included planing and removing the existing asphalt substrate and installing two new layers of porous asphalt to a consolidated depth of 65mm. The club choose TigerTurf ‘Advantage Pro’ as the new playing surface. Key stage inspections were carried out at critical point of the project to ensure the new facility was delivered in line with current SAPCA code of practice.

Regularly voted as one of the worlds best hotel, The Gleneagles Hotel has a long-standing reputation for luxury and grandeur. Sportex were thrilled to be chosen as the preferred contractor to refurbish their existing outdoor four court tennis block.
The work included removing an old and tired artificial turf carpet before setting to work on the underlying asphalt. New perimeter kerbing, tennis post sockets, new regulating asphalt performance surface as well as a brand-new perimeter fence complete with viewing area made up the main scope of works for the project. Finally, the completed courts were finished in a striking two-tone green acrylic paint finish to complement the beautiful natural landscape of hotel and its surroundings.

Recently, we completed the upgrade of an existing football/rugby 3G field for the University of Edinburgh, at their Peffermill Sports Complex.
In collaboration with Polytan, the Universities specified artificial turf supplier, we delivered a wonderful upgrade. The new 10,400m2 field has passed both World Rugby and FIFA Quality performance standards and as well as both training and competition use football and rugby, the new two-tone green/blue surface will also be used for American Football and Lacrosse.
This was a great project for the University in the continuous development of its sporting facilities.
