After years of poor maintenance, an extensive project for Lostock Hall Academy was required, including the reconstructing of macadam courts, installing new athletics facilities, and additional landscaping.

Sportex replaced the existing surface with a modern sand-dressed synthetic turf “Gen2” compliant MUGA and constructed an acrylic-coated macadam court. The new athletics features included a six-lane sprint straight and a long jump pit. Landscaping works involved creating a plaza area and a garden area.

The entire MUGA perimeter was enclosed with a new rolled welded mesh fencing system, and new sports equipment was erected. Additionally, we installed the new athletic sprint straight and jump pits, as well as performed external landscaping and surfacing works.

Oldmeldrum village is given a new lease of life, with multi-purpose sporting facility that benefits the whole community.

Oldmeldrum is a village and parish in the Formartine area of Aberdeenshire, not far from Inverurie, in North East Scotland. With a population of around 2,000 people, it was welcome news to the local community, when Aberdeenshire council announced that the existing local tennis courts would be refurbished, creating a new multi-use games area, that would cater for multiple sporting activities; like tennis, basketball, netball and football.

The existing facility benefited from new fencing, floodlighting and new painted porous macadam surface, accommodating a multitude of activities for use by all of the communities’ local groups and sports clubs.

Sportex project transforms tired Queensferry community hub, into a ‘little Wimbledon’ for Edinburgh Council.

SPORTEX were delighted to be chosen as the lead contractor for the transformation of tired and dilapidated MUGA and tennis facilities, at South Queensferry Sports Hub in Edinburgh.

The scope of works included transforming the existing, four 5-a-side 2G ball courts, into a single, dedicated 7-a-side 3G football and rugby training area. A new 60mm pile height, 3G carpet was installed on top of a new 20mm thick insitu laid shockpad, after establishing that the existing engineered macadam base, was within the required tolerances. The perimeter fencing was replaced with new 868 rigid panel fencing, for added durability, along with new 7-a-side goal equipment.

The existing three court tennis facility, was overlaid with a new, wearing course layer of asphalt, before being painted with a water-based acrylic coating in green and purple, similar to colours commonly associated with Wimbledon.

Aberdeenshire Council choose Sportex to create a state-of-art sports and recreational facility for Crombie Primary School.

In line with Aberdeenshire Council’s mission, of having state-of-art sports and recreational facilities within all of their schools’ estates, SPORTEX were commissioned to design and build a new 36m x 18m Type 4 polymeric MUGA, in the summer 2019.

Utilising a substantial area of unused natural turf within the school grounds, the new MUGA was built with the essential drainage to suit the pre-determined, ground conditions, along with necessary retaining wall structures allowing for differences in ground levels.

The MUGA was constructed with 868 rigid panel fencing, complete with 1.25m rebound panels, recessed goals for 5-a-side football and bespoke basketball board/hoop at each end.

The new polymeric surface was installed in a striking ‘may’ green colour and lined for multiple sports including; football, tennis, basketball and netball.

Sportex builds a brand new MUGA for Clydemuir School that will also change the lives of a whole community.

In early 2018, West Dunbartonshire Council identified an area of disused ground at Clydemuir Primary School in Clydebank, to be converted into a new 3G synthetic turf MUGA, for use by the school and local community. Significant design and groundworks were undertaken, to not only improve the drainage of the site, but also to provide a stabilised platform to construct apon. A 60mm, 3G carpet was installed on top of a 20mm insitu laid shockpad. The new facility was encapsulated with new, 868 rigid panelled, fencing, appropriate gate access and permanently hinged, 7-a-side football goals.

In addition to the 3G artificial turf MUGA, a painted, porous asphalt duel tennis/netball court was designed and built on spare land, adjacent to the MUGA. The new facility brings a large under-utilised area into everyday use, for both the school and the wider community.
