SportScotland ask Sportex to convert old water-based pitch into a World Rugby synthetic turf facility.

SportScotland required an existing water-based hockey pitch at their national training centre to be extended and converted to a new 6996m2, 60mm FIFA QUALITY and World Rugby compliant, synthetic turf facility.
The scope of works included the removal of the existing water-based carpet and underlying 12mm shockpad. Necessary repairs were made to the existing asphalt base. Excavations, ground and civils work were undertaken to extend the existing pitch, both longitudinally and laterally.
On completion of the preparations for the newly extended site, new 20mm shockpad and a new 60mm 3G woven synthetic turf carpet were installed, complete with football lines, cross pitch football D’s and new football goal equipment. A new retaining wall was created surrounding the newly extended areas.

To complete the project Installation, a new gable-end twin wire, rigid panel 5m high perimeter fence and 1.25m high spectator rail were installed. Independent testing of the completed field was conducted to achieve FIFA Quality and World Rugby performance standard.

The planning and execution of the project was excellent and provided me and our sponsors with a high level of confidence.”

Whitecraigs Tennis Club choose SPORTEX to refurbish 8 new courts after a lengthy two years to research their options.

Whitecraigs Tennis Club has a rich history of Scottish tennis success, and is known across the country for developing and producing some of the Scotland junior players.

Summer 2015 saw the complete refurbishment of 8 new outdoor synthetic turf courts at Whitecraigs in Glasgow; six in artificial clay and two in, sand-dressed, artificial grass. The club set up a sub-committee tasked with researching and presenting back to the membership, their recommended options for the new surfaces.

After nearly two years of work and countless visits to tennis clubs across the U.K., the sub-committee recommended Edel ‘Advantage Redcourt’ as the preferred artificial clay surface with SPORTEX recommended as the lead contractor for the entire project. All works were completed within a tight schedule to ensure the courts were complete for the club’s championships in August.

Murrayfield throw out the old, and bring in the new, with industry leading ‘Advantage PRO’ surfaces by SPORTEX.

Established 1904, Murrayfield Lawn Tennis Club is one of the oldest and most picturesque tennis club in the East of Scotland. Nestled just a stone’s throw away from the iconic Murrayfield Stadium, the summer of 2018 saw the reconstruction of the club’s existing block of four courts by SPORTEX.

The old construction profile of sand-filled, synthetic turf, laid on porous concrete panels, were completely removed from the site, thus exposing the underlying formation. This was CBR tested to ensure it achieved acceptable levels of stabilisation, prior to the new ground profile being installed. The industry leading ‘Advantage PRO’ texturised monofilament sand-dressed carpet, by TigerTurf, provided the finished playing surfacing, in a pleasing red/green combination.

Refurbishment to the existing fencing and the provision of new tennis court fixtures, completed the delivery of this prestigious project.

Edinburgh’s legendary tennis facility is totally revamped for the 21st century by SPORTEX.

Edinburgh’s flagship tennis facility at Craiglockhart Tennis Centre has for decades hosted some of the games’ most prestigious tournaments to visit Scotland.

The outdoor tennis courts have hosted many world-famous players over the years from Jimmy Connors and John McEnroe in the 1970s to Andy Murray in the 1990s.

Having secured funding from both Sportscotland and Tennis Scotland, the out-dated and tired American Clay courts were reconstructed and reconfigured to create a block of 5 new artificial clay courts, with the addition of new LED floodlighting. The original centre court facility, with 360O spectator seating, was also fully upgraded; removing the old American Clay, irrigation and sub-base foundations and installing the industry-leading, Edel ‘Advantage Redcourt’, artificial clay over two layers of engineered macadam.

The new facility, will help support the development of junior players within Edinburgh Leisure’s programme, as well as the development squads supported by Tennis Scotland, and can additionally be enjoyed by the playing public.

Sportex extends school pitch for Wigan Council to competitive FA League standards.

In spring 2019, Sportex won a competitive tender process which saw them chosen as the preferred contractor for the extension and refurbishment of an existing 2G synthetic turf facility at Lowton CE High School.

As the primary sporting use for the new facility was football, as the existing facility was originally built as a hockey facility there was a need to extend the length of existing pitch footprint by 7m. The extended area was developed to match the existing construction profile of the current field and regularly inspected and approved by the client’s nominated independent consultant.

For the finished surface, a new 40mm 3G carpet by Greenfields was installed and independently tested to ensure it met approval for the FA’s 3G pitch register, allowing the local football club to use the facility for training and competitive league requirements.

“Ecosse Sports Ltd extended and refurbished our old astro pitch in Summer 2019.  The work was completed within a tight timescale and to a very high standard.  The quality of the carpet supplied is excellent and still in pristine condition after 9 months us by the School and Leigh Genesis Football club”

University of Dundee opts for new FIFA spec 3G carpet football pitch.

The summer of 2019 saw the University of Dundee commission Sportex as their preferred contractor to replace a 10-year-old existing 3G surface with a new 50mm FIFA Quality approved artificial turf system.

The main elements of the project included the cutting, rolling and removal of the existing synthetic turf surface, taking care not to damage the underlying insitu shockpad that was being retained. Once the shockpad had been exposed, a key stage inspection was carried out by an independent testing company to assess its conformity to achieve, along with the new 3G carpet, the desired performance standard.

The new 3G carpet was installed with inlaid 11-a-side football lines as well as cross pitch 7-a-side football lines, delivering optimal playing conditions for both recreational and top-level competitive football.

Ecosse Sports carried out the resurfacing of our 3G pitch to a high standard, and delivered the project within a tight programme that reduced disruption for our students and other users of the pitch. We are very pleased with the quality of the pitch, and the follow-up maintenance package.”

As well as delivering a new first class 3G facility, Sportex were also asked as part of the project to ‘Rejuvenate’ the existing full size, sand-dressed hockey pitch adjacent to the 3G carpet. Through our maintenance division, Sportex Maintenance we extracted the contaminated sand infill, aerated and opened up the existing carpet fibres and installed new, clean sand to the original manufacturers recommendations to restore the appearance, performance and safety of the surface.

The school is located to the south of the Fair City of Perth, in a wonderful rural setting with stunning countryside views including the impressive Kinnoull Hill. In keeping with the schools modern and impressive facilities for pupils and staff, it was decided in 2020 to upgrade their existing artificial turf facility which was used predominantly for the schools hockey and tennis programmes.

Sportex were delighted to be awarded to contract to deliver on the schools requirements. The scope of works included the installation of a new insitu shockpad and sand-dressed artificial turf carpet in two-tone green blue to replace the old shockpad/carpet system. The existing asphalt based, once exposed methodically inspected for compliance, was found to be in a good and stable condition for accepting the new components.

We are very happy to have worked with the school on this project and compliment a number of Perthshire independent schools that we have delivered first class sports facilities over the last few years.
